What recent guests emphasize

Simple accommodations with great value in a prime location

Visitors appreciate the unbeatable price and central Manhattan location, though the basic rooms and limited amenities reflect a budget stay with some practical compromises.

Guests often praise

  • Excellent and convenient location near public transportation and key New York attractions
  • Affordable rates that are hard to beat in Manhattan
  • Clean, air-conditioned rooms that provide a private sleeping space
  • Friendly and helpful staff accommodating guest requests
  • Complimentary hot water, free Wi-Fi, and basic toiletries provided

Worth knowing

  • Rooms are extremely small and minimalist, some resembling dorm-style or “prison cell” layouts
  • Bathrooms are limited in size and shared by few rooms; cleanliness varies
  • Walls are thin, so earplugs or headphones are recommended for light sleepers
  • Guests may encounter noise from neighboring rooms or shared spaces
  • Not suitable for families or travelers requiring spacious, comfortable accommodations

Best for

  • Budget-conscious solo travelers who prioritize location over luxury
  • Visitors looking for a no-frills, private room alternative to hostels
  • Those comfortable with basic amenities and compact living spaces
  • Travelers who plan to spend most of their time exploring the city rather than in the hotel
  • Guests seeking easy access to nightlife, museums, and the subway

About this property

Welcome to Bowery Grand Hotel

Located at 143 Bowery in New York City’s Lower East Side, Bowery Grand Hotel offers a basic accommodation option for budget-conscious travelers. The hotel features small, pared-down rooms, some dorm-style, equipped with air conditioning and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are shared and generally clean, though rooms are compact and better suited for short stays or those who prioritize location over space and amenities.

The property provides essential services such as paid parking and an airport shuttle, while notable facilities like a fitness center, pool, or pet-friendly accommodations are absent. Guests should prepare for a no-frills experience, including thin walls and small room sizes, as noted by multiple reviewers who advise bringing earplugs or headphones for noise reduction. Several guests found the pricing reasonable for Manhattan, recognizing the hotel’s simplicity and limited comforts.

Its setting in a vibrant neighborhood is a highlight, placing visitors close to a dynamic nightlife scene, diverse dining options, and cultural sites such as the Tenement Museum. Popular landmarks including the Brooklyn Bridge, 9/11 Memorial & Museum, and Empire State Building are easily reachable, making the location attractive for visitors wanting to explore iconic New York attractions.

While the Bowery Grand Hotel may not suit travelers seeking luxury or ample space, it can be a practical choice for solo adventurers or those on a tight budget who are comfortable with a modest, straightforward lodging. The property’s appeal lies mainly in its affordable rates and central spot rather than extensive amenities or upscale accommodations.

There is a simple thing that I would like to tell the hotel management about? It is only to tell the guest not to disturb others. And put a small sticker inside and outside the room. As for the hotel in terms of price, cleanliness, and location, it is much better than 3-star hotels. Greetings, appreciation, and love to you

I've stayed here a couple of times within the last 2 yrs. If you're female they always put you on the first floor (stairs so pack light) only 1flight up. Always friendly, the beds are lil hard, a few bathrooms usually ok clean, shut with a key, a door in tiny room (closet) and lay down to sleep is priceless! Bring earbuds or quiet listening phone, bring or buy instant Instant coffee, tea always free hot water. They want a cash deposit $20? for blankets etc. You can leave luggage for early check-in/out. I tip something for courtesy nothing ever happened. Chinatown location easy to walk around and always felt safe even outside smoking late nights. It's good enough for resting. It's a great budget location!

It was what I expected for $75 a night in Manhattan. Bring your own sheet, pillow, and thin blanket if you can…. And pack your headphones. . Its a $75 a night hotel in a fun side of Manhattan. You are lucky to have had a bathroom and closet for this price.

*CHEAP AS HELL! 1000% - I’m extremely cheap to the core…. But that’s just me, !!! if *you* value comfort and ambiance , then THIS PLACE will most likely NOT be suitable for you or your standards, and I say that with respect for the establishment……. I would avoid this option if you are traveling with women or children,…. NO OFFENSE/Just my honest opinion *To the solo man traveler : 1. Amazing location for the *Bottom Dollar rate* the price is unbeatable! Smack dab in the middle of downtown manhattan 5 stars for the price and 5 stars for the location!!! 2. NOT A HOSTLE. ROOMS ARE PRIVATE bedrooms are small Prison cells with a small cott and a small table and mine had a fan for air flow. **** I say this as I am a SINGLE MAN and American traveler so I •don’t need• anything more. But , Place beats any hostel! (( 5 stars because a small bed-cell is better than a shared room!

Found this hotel, when looking up motels in the New York region. This one caught my eye and went looking at the photos of the rooms and how small they were. I thought it was cool to stay at a motel where it’s just a bed surrounded by walls and a walk in the hallway to the bathroom as I am used to your standard motels where is wide open spaces with the bed and a shower and one room. When I checked in to a hotel website, I got the date wrong and when I asked if I can change the date, the person in the service counter said I had to call customer service, but somehow they managed to change the date for me, which was really nice of them. they even gave you your own toilet paper, your own toothbrush, toothpaste soap, all that stuff which was mighty generous, and because the rooms were tiny They were nicely air-conditioned on the hottest days of the week and you have the best public transportation as the subway is down the block with everything around you. I only paid $71 plus taxes to stay here which is not bad for New York City.

I had a wonderful stay at the Bowery Grand Hotel during my visit to New York. The hotel's prime location in the heart of the city made it incredibly convenient to explore the city's vibrant neighborhoods. The staff was welcoming and accommodating, ensuring my stay was comfortable. The rooms were clean, well-maintained, and offered a cozy retreat after a day of exploring the city. The hotel's unique charm and character, combined with its affordability, made it an excellent choice for my trip. I appreciated the value it provided. I highly recommend the Bowery Grand Hotel to anyone looking for an enjoyable stay in New York. I look forward to returning on my next visit to this incredible city.

When I saw those steps leading up to the Bowery lobby, I knew I was in for something special. The staff warmly greeted me as a shirtless man walked into the office for a drink. After getting our keys, we unlocked the door that would be home for the next two nights. To say I was amazed would be an understatement. Four white walls closely adorned the bed in which I would be sleeping. There was little space other than the bed, as if to suggest that this room was a place for rest, rather than work. Instead of a window, a mirror lay to my right so I could constantly look at my beautiful reflection. When it came time to pee, I was welcomed by a beautiful colony of drain flies flying above the bathroom floor which was marinated with mud from other guests' shoes -- a reminder that we were not alone. Although I refrained from showering as to avoid contracting the entire Covid variant alphabet, I am confident that guests who did shower most likely survived. Before going to sleep, I turned on the TV which was perfectly placed in front of the bed, and saw a beautiful vintage cartoon known as Clutch Cargo. Before dozing off, I placed a tarp on the bed to fend off the family of bed bugs that likely also resided in my residence. A cheap place to stay in Manhattan and I never felt unsafe. Just remember, you are never alone in the Bowery Grand Hotel.

You get what you pay for. Can't really complain to much; just be aware this is closer to a hostel then a hotel. Location was great. Wish the bathroom was a bit bigger and cleaner was all but overall was good. The walls are very thin so bring earplugs or headphones you can sleep with
